What's on in Townsville

Townsville is a sparkling gem in the North Queensland crown. Australia's largest tropical city is wonderfully vibrant and has a style all of its own.

You can get orientated in Townsville by driving to the top of Rocky-Red Castle Hill  and take in the breathtaking views across the city and Cleveland Bay.

Flinders Street East is a must see for its superb colonial buildings, housing funky cafes, bars and nightclubs. Take a leisurely Sunday stroll through the markets at Flinders Street Mall where you will find everything from unique hand-crafts to delicious fresh fruit!

Nearby, the 2.5km beachfront Strand will stun you with its beauty. This world-class, palm-studded parkland has safe swimming beaches, exercise facilities, an adventurous children's water park, beautiful picnic/barbecue spots plus waterfront  cafes and restaurants.

If shopping is your favorite past time, head into Gregory Street, branching off The Strand, and raid the boutiques before sipping coffee alfresco. In the Palmer Street restaurant strip, savourfabulous International flavours prepared from the freshest  seafood and produce.

There is so much to do and see in Townsville! Visit the world's largest coral reef aquarium at Reef HQ, have a flutter at the Jupiter's Casino, see the fascinating Pandora exhibit at the Museum of Tropical Queensland, pat cute Australian animals at the Billabong Sanctuary or take a peek in the PercTucker Regional Art Gallery and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and heritage to the regional community at Brolga Dreaming Centre.

Culture-wise, be inspired by world-class productions presented by local dance and theatre companies.  And, depending on the season, you can cheer on the city's National Rugby League team 'The Cowboys' or 'The Crocodiles' Basketball Team’.
